Ukrainian Independence Day– A Cultural Experience At LCC

Hey Everyone!

I hope that y’all are having a nice week so far! It’s test season here at LCC, but that does not mean that we can’t make time for fun activities! Last night, there was a huge celebration for Ukrainian Independence Day. LCC organizes cultural events on every country’s Independence Day. LCC has students from over 27 different countries, and will host Independence Day events for each country that a student is from.

Anyway, last night we celebrated Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union.

The event started out with some explanations of Ukrainian culture and common stereotypes of their country/citizens. There were a few games that involved eating traditional Ukrainian food including this great pork strip. I cannot remember what they’re called, but they were wonderful. After the games, we sang Happy Birthday to Ukraine, and then ate a traditional meal (a red beet soup with chicken and potatoes).
